Inspired by coming-of-age films, Afrofuturism, horror, and pop culture, AIR BODY SAD takes us into a hypnotic landscape where everything feels too close, too intense, too uncertain. When belonging is something you have to fight for, and rebellion simmers beneath the surface, dance becomes a survival strategy – a way to grasp the darkness.
After making headlines with an explosive performance at the Roskilde Festival, the British-American choreographer Malik Nashad Sharpe is ready for Oslo with his latest work. Here we encounter a powerful, visually striking production where the body is put to the test – and dance becomes an expression of what cannot be spoken with words. Sharpe is one of the most exciting voices in contemporary dance right now, known for pushing the boundaries between dance, music, and visual art. With backgrounds in both dancehall and classical techniques, and a distinctive signature inspired by science fiction and horror films, he creates works that pulse with aesthetic rebellion and emotional power.
In collaboration with the company Norrdans, from Northern Sweden, with dancers from all over the world, Sharpe delivers a piece that moves seamlessly between contemporary art and pop culture. The result is a performance where every movement vibrates with energy, beauty, and unrest.
AIR BODY SAD has its world premiere just days before it is shown in Oslo. This is dance for those who want to be moved, challenged – and hypnotized.
